During the late 1960s and early 1970s Colleen Belk, her husband, Jack, and others compiled several volumes of tombstone inscriptions from various cemeteries throughout Jasper County, Missouri. This data has not been updated for almost 40 years in some cases. I have went to some of these cemeteries and surveyed them for newer burials made since those books were published. In some cases the cemeteries had grown by many new graves and others had only a few. I have listed all of the new burials that I could find as well as some old ones that now had stones. In some of the old cemeteries such as Miller, Mt. Calvary, and Walnut Grove, I was able to find a lot of unlisted burials by searching through Hurlbut and Sevier mortuary records and also from death certificates and an occasional obituary. This is a listing of burials that for the most part is not in the Belk books. Most of the material in the Belk books is not in this book and those books and this additional listing is designed to be used together.
The stones were photographed and the data was then transcribed to paper. This worked out much better than going to the cemetery and writing the data down. I want to thank Edith Williams for helping me photograph the stones in some of the larger cemeteries.
This book is the first such project that I have attempted. There could be another one later depending on how this one works out.
