The monthly meeting of the Delaware County Genealogical Society will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 7pm at the Grove Public Library.  Rose Stauber will discuss the project that James Reed has undertaken.  James Reed, now retired from a job as a mainframe computer operator, lives in Powell, McDonald County, MO.  His great grandfather, Claiborne E. Duval, published a weekly newspaper in Pineville, the county seat, for 60 years from 1883 to 1942.  Most of the newspapers before 1923 have not been microfilmed.  James has his great grandfather’s collection of the original newspapers and he is extracting the information of interest for each year and is publishing it as it is available.  So far, he has completed four years.  Rose Stauber has the books he has published so far.  This will be of great interest to anyone who has family who lived in McDonald County.

The Genealogical Society supports the genealogical collection at the Grove Public Library and assists persons researching their family histories.  Both Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest are available online through the library.  Ancestry is available only at the library, but with a library card members can access Heritage Quest from home.

The society meets the third Tuesday of each month except December.  There is a short business meeting followed by a program and then refreshments.

The meetings are open to the public and anyone who is interested in their family history.  Dues are $7.50 for an individual and $10 for a couple.
