Additions to Tombstone Inscriptions of Jasper County, Missouri: Revisited 2008, by John Schehrer has now been published. A labor of love, Schehrer has committed to enriching the amount of genealogical and historical information available to the researching public for Jasper County, Missouri. An earlier book series was compiled by Colleen Webb Belk and Jack Belk throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. Schehrer’s new book includes additions to the cemeteries since the Belk’s groundbreaking work. In addition to the Belk’s publications existing in many private libraries and archives, copies of this original series can be found in the world-class research collections of Allen County Public Library, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Mid-Continent Public Library, Independence, Missouri; and regionally at the Springfield Greene County Library, Springfield, Missouri.

Schehrer traveled to many cemeteries in Jasper County, Missouri, surveying them for burials occurring after the original Belk volumes. They include: New Hope, Fullerton Cemetery, Pleasant View, Trinity Lutheran, Waco, Weaver, Curtis, Paradise, Center, Harmony Grove, Taylor, Arthur-Melugin, Reeds, Miller, Cox, Emmanuel, Williams, Fairview (Near Alba), Hopkins, Mt. Calvary (Joplin), Howard, Sterling, Avilla, Fidelity, Jasper (Near Reeds), Pleasant Hill, Twin Grove, Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium, Sumerset, Nichols, Medoc, Walnut Grove and also contains some miscellaneous cemetery additions. In some cases, cemeteries had only increased by a handful, while others had grown quite a bit. In addition to these newer burials found by the author, this book includes some burials that did not have stones at the time of the Belk’s visits. In several of the older cemeteries, such as Miller, Mt. Calvary, and Walnut Grove, Schehrer was able to include other burials not previously published by searching mortuary records, death certificates, and obituaries. These are included in this new research reference.

This new publication measurers 8.5x11” and has a soft comb binding. Its’ 106 pages include an introduction by the author, table of contents, individual transcriptions by cemetery, miscellaneous cemetery additions and a surname index by cemetery.
