Publishing an electronic book can conjure visions of needing dedicated e-readers such as Kindle, Nook, iPad or even tablet to access. While this may be the current popular way to access an e-book, how you choose to format and sell a book can allow for a variety of electronic platform access - from desktop and laptop computers to Smart phones and Tablets. File (manuscript) preparation can allow readers to access your electronic book on anything, just one dedicated reader, or anything in between.

Publishing electronically also opens up a new world of possibilities over traditional printing! No longer do you have to produce a single manuscript and call it done. Is there a format that supports video, another that does links better and a third you love, but only supports formatting like bold, italics, and underline? Authors may also use dedicated online electronic book publishers, if they feel comfortable with the process and it meets their needs. Some of which specialize in proprietary e-book reader formats such as for Kindle and Nook. One of many popular services is Smashwords. If ready to "go it alone", another full-featured option is Calibre. If you just need a converter to complete your electronic formatting plans, Zamzar offers both free and premium services.

If your publication originated in eBook format, there is still value in offering a traditionally published edition. Is your electronic book chocked full of color photos and graphics, audio, video, and more? Use the internet to support printed and bound editions: Provide links to color and additional content. This online content may also be used for promotional purposes, and may be placed in public access areas, or restricted areas.
