Genealogical Conference:
Computers for Service
Expansion
Carrie
Ann Cook We regret to report that the free 2007 library seminar has been canceled. The Grove Public Library has decided against allowing this service to be held in their meeting room. Because of the time line, we are unable to reschedule it for the end of this year. We hope to be able to offer the topic and other seminars in the future. We deeply regret any problems this free service cancellation by the Grove Public Library has caused in your personal or professional life. Please accept our apologies. COST:
FREE Computers can expand services for your genealogy researching patron/customers in many different ways. Focus will be on facilities that have customer accessible computer workstations and basic internet connection. However, if you don't have a customer computer lab, this seminar will provide some ideas on how to take a staff computer, printer and/or internet connections to help your customers find what they are looking for - without budgeting extra for hardware, software, or traditional collection materials. Many ideas can also be used with a caring staff member to instruct the computer using patron for DIY (do it yourself) at home, if a computer is unavailable in-house. The bulk of the day will be spent exploring free (if you don't count staff time) and inexpensive ways to expand your services and collection through the computer and internet. However, some Premium services will be touched on. Wireless internet through EODL available on campus to EODL customers, however electric outlets are limited.
