Front matter: All the pages in the front of the book, leading up to the text proper - title page/verso, dedication, table of contents, frontice piece, preface, etc.

Gripper Margin (*Grip): Margin space that is needed to get the page through the press.  Strictly speaking the *Grip is space that cannot be printed upon, and is always larger on one of the 4 edges of the paper.

Terms marked with an asterisk (*) are not generally used in our office.

Add additional material to a book with an electronic assist:

Hybrid books combine traditional printed books with additional electronic media. Have lots of stuff you wish to include? Instead of producing multiple discs to bind into a book, consider attaching a USB drive to a bookmark ribbon: this can be sewn into hard cover books.

Consider a "hybrid" printed book and CD/DVD combo package for lots of material!

CD or DVD can also be placed in sleeves attached to a hard bound book. Sleeves are generally attached at the back or front, but may also be attached within the book block and may accommodate up to 4 discs on an 8.5x11" book format.

If your promotional mailing is in excess of 200 pieces of the same design, sent at the same time to domestic addresses, you may wish to economize with a "bulk" mailing. Clients that publish with us can take advantage of our post-paid mailing permit imprint to send their promotional materials out by standard mail. If the mailing is large enough, first class mail is also an option at permit discount. Contact us for more information.

Using social networking can be tricky to further your research. However, with a careful eye to privacy and the possibility of ID theft, it can be achieved. When providing information online. Never forget these two issues.

Did you know that you can use the Microsoft Office combination of Excel and Word to produce individual items up to, and including, postal bar codes? When desiring postal bar codes, the computer system will need the bar code font installed. Also, double check with your printer specifications to be sure it is capable of producing USPS readable codes.
