What’s It Mean? A-Z

Proportional Spacing (scalable font): Type in which every character in the set/alphabet takes as much or as little space as it needs.  The "i" and the "w" would take up different amounts of space, rather than "typewritten" or set spacing where they would take up the exact same space.

*Ragged right (Left Justify): Text blocks that are justified on the left only have a ragged right margin because the right margin falls naturally with word breaks without forcing it to become even.

When designing your book, keep your target audience in mind. If older members are more owners, consider large print, companion media with resizable material and/or computer can read it. Be careful about adding content soley by newer technology - QR codes, etc.

Will you be mailing a lot of books to single readers, or will you be hand selling books in person? If you will be mailing books in ones and twos, consider the weight - do you really need heavier or gloss/coated paper to make your book stand out?

Using "standard typing paper" may allow you to charge less for shipping, thus making mail order more appealing to buyers.

Do you have friends that research? If so, consider an ancestor exchange to get a new pair of eyes on difficult research. Be sure you set good ground rules: Amount of time exchanged, sharing research logs, etc.
