Write to the Library of Congress Cataloging in Publication Division, 101 Independence Avenue SE, Washington, D. C. 20540-4320 for current information before well verso preparation. Once you have the Library of Congress number, use it on the verso of the title page. After your books are complete, one book goes back to the Library of Congress Cataloging in Publication Division office.
Applying for an LOC, will give your book a universally used catalog card number. The process should be started before you publish your book, as the assigned number must be printed in the book. If self-publishing, it is possible to print all pages but the title/verso until the LOC control number arrives, then print, collate and bind the complete book. Once the forms have been filled out, expect at least a month delay before receiving your number. This delay is one reason many authors opt to forego a Library of Congress number.
