Biography 

Mr. Waits is highly regarded at his position with the Muskogee Library. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Arkansas as well as a Master of Information Science from the University of North Texas.  A speaker with 35 years experience, his Genealogy and Family History knowledge equips him with a wide informational base.

Advanced Arkansas Research:
Pre-Civil War

 

Focus on using tax assessment records, delinquent tax lists, early land grants, and travelogues.  Many of the points will be drawn from resources in Northern Arkansas, but will generally relate to much of the state as a whole.  This session will also cover the Cherokee Nation in Arkansas and the consequences of its removal to Indian Territory in 1828 if time permits.

Advanced Arkansas Research:
Civil War to 1900

 

Focus on business census and records, Southern Claims Commission; Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands; and inventors.  Geographically, this talk will be more state-wide in focus.
