What's It Mean?

Absorbent Paper (see Paper): Covering a variety of papers made for absorbing water and inks (degrees vary). Examples: duplicating, filter, blotting and toweling papers.
*Acid Free Books (see Archival): The use of this term varies from the logical definition of the individual words to a wide variety of standards - always have a company explain their definition. An acid free book depend on internal (book materials) and external factors (chemical processes, environment, etc.).

Design Inspiration - Specific
suggestions while deciding index entry/item framework:
///////////////////////////////
Cross references can take many forms, the most common are see, see also, see under and see also under. While rules exist on what form or cross reference should be used where, remember, the author is always right - as long as they consider the ability to easily research out of their book. Even the rule books don't always use their own rules in their indexes. The important thing is to include at least some cross reference information, rather than choosing the one place an entry should go in the index - which reduces the effectiveness of the index.

Check with your local library, even if they don't have a large genealogy section, to see what online services they offer. They can assist you with using WorldCat (http://www.worldcat.org) to see where the closest copy of particular books are available in public collections.

What software to use? (part 2)
///////////////////////////////
If you are looking for a "desktop typewriter", almost any word processing software will do. If you have a Microsoft Window based system, you have WordPad. This is a very basic program, but if you aren't interested in any bells and whistles (such as spell check, etc.), it is fairly easy to learn and operate. If you don't have a MS Windows based system, or want to look at something else, there are many shareware programs available at little or no cost.
