As the end of the year approaches, sometimes economy is a good thing to keep in sight when designing your book. While most people realize hard bound copies cost more than soft bound copies, and electronic books even less, check with your publisher: Give them your goals - include wished for binding quality, general quantity, and anything else. Then ask if they have economical recommendations. You may be surprised at some of the creative solutions professionals can offer that an author may not have even considered.

Do you have Copyright release for a reprint but don't have access to any materials but a printed book? Don't despair: As long as the book printing doesn't run into the binding a good quality manuscript is achievable fairly quickly. The bad news is, depending on the binding margin and state of paper, you may have to sacrifice the book. The spine can be cut off the book and the loose sheets digitized. This will not improve on anything in the printed copy, but generally the "copy of copy" will with today's software, the result is little to no visible quality loss for the general reader. If the paper from the book is still in good condition and the binding margin was large enough, the book may be rebound as well. Let us know if we can help.

Do you have templates that you don't use - while you do use others? Perhaps you made a mistake on a template and don't need it anymore? Try right clicking on the template: you should get a shortcut menu which includes a delete function. Sometimes a bit of housekeeping in your files/types can save repeated scrolling or search time.
