(Inspirational/How To)
My name is Bill H., and I'm, well...complicated! Clinically, I'm a recovering drug addict—with Attention Deficit Disorder to boot—who, after twenty-two years of consuming a plethora of mind-bending toxins, is very much grateful to be alive.
In 1996, Bill recognized a problem with drugs and alcohol, and subsequently checked himself into a treatment center. As a result, Bill, in a volunteer capacity, taught weekly classes on recovery for ten years at the rehab center that helped him to help himself. Having personally worked with approximately eight thousand patients in recovery, he provided Twelve-Step based support and teachings to those in need.
One of the objectives of this book is to incorporate into the mainstream the author's understanding of the Twelve-Step Program of Recovery. Although this book was written from the perspective of a recovering addict, the reality is that you don't have to be a drug addict or alcoholic to benefit from a spiritual pilgrimage that has led millions to peace of mind—from desperation and despair, to hope and then Serenity. After all, the only difference between the people of 'mainstream America' and those with addiction(s) are the ways in which they handle their problems. Peace of mind resides within these pages.
This book is Bill's effort to reach out and, through lessons learned from his own experiences, help those in need find their way to Sobriety, Sanity and Serenity. Through his teachings and stories (some funny, some not so funny), the author hopes to touch every emotion, and perhaps feelings you didn't know you had.
Bill Hanks is a 25 year veteran on Wall Street-the last 11 years as Co-founder and Co-manager of a Registered Investment Advisory firm specializing in “fund of fund” asset management. Bill is a product of the 70s, having graduated college in 1979. He’s quick to say, “I don’t remember much, but they tell me I had a great time.”
In 1996, Bill recognized a problem with drugs and alcohol, and subsequently checked himself into a treatment center. As a result, Bill, in a volunteer capacity, taught weekly classes on recovery for ten years at the rehab center that helped him to help himself thirteen years ago. Having personally worked with approximately eight thousand patients in recovery, he provided Twelve-Step based support and teachings to those in need. Today, Bill has changed gears and works with our youth through school and church sponsored awareness programs bringing prevention factors to a susceptible age group. As Bill states, “I would rather deploy ‘prevention factors’ now, instead of ‘damage control’ later.” Bill lives in Tulsa and is a proud father of two, both of whom are in college.

The
Indian Rock Vampire
(Oklahoma Historical Vampire Fiction)
The Legend of Michelle Sands (2009) is set in the southeastern Oklahoma town of Howe in 1958. We meet the pretty teenager who inherits the power of an ancient Vampire and uses it to change the lives of the people around her and the power structure of Leflore county Oklahoma.
Upside Down Heart (2010) moves the story forward through the 1960's. The 1961 Howe tornado and a Presidential visit to the area the same year both play into this story. Michelle and her growing group expand from Howe around the world. They have great financial success, learn some heart breaking lessons, and encounter new enemies who want to take away their power.
To Be Published
Millennium (2011) brings Michelle and her followers
into an all out battle with their enemies. The world wide
fear about the transition to the year 2000 is at the center
of this challenge to their success and survival.
Return to Indian Rock (2012) brings Michelle and her group of immortals back to Howe, OK after more than 100 years
Like most writers I've had a variety of work and life experiences. My work experience started with weighing nails at my Dad's lumber yard in Poteau, OK when I was barely tall enough to reach the nail bins. By age twelve I was stacking boards in the summer time at my Grandfather's saw mill in Mansfield, AR. At 16 I started cooking burgers and making shakes at the Mr. Swiss in Poteau, and later worked at Wally World. After graduating from Poteau High School in 1972 I spent a couple of years at Southeastern State in Durant, OK majoring in drinking and going to parties. I got married (which saved my life) and worked at Wally World for what seemed like 100 years. I've also worked in coal mining, telecom, computers, TV, newspaper, recycling, auto parts, and debt collection. My family has been active in church, car clubs and civic groups but not as much since our children left home. We moved around with my jobs to Ft. Smith, AR, Dallas, TX, Phoenix, AZ and back to Poteau. Most of our time has been spent in the Tulsa metro area where I live today in Broken Arrow. The best thing I've ever done in my life was getting married to my beautiful, smart, wonderful high school sweetheart Becky (Craig). I had the good sense to stay married to her (and she put up with me) for all those years which resulted in having four terrific kids who've blessed us with five granddaughters and one grandson (so far).
