It is possible to produce books that have various envelopes, storage sleeves and removable media (CD, DVD, USB) produced as a part of the original edition. Many inserts can be bound into the spine, as well as there being several options for including electronic data.
Many flat storage solutions can be bound directly into a hardbound book spine. To allow to items to be placed within, extra material may be added to the spine. General ideas include envelope or sleeve of keepsakes, slide, photo or document storage/display page or CD/DVD keeper page. Budgetary restrictions commonly place these grouped together at the beginning or end of a book next to the end pages. However, they may be placed at intervals or wherever they are required - except between odd and the next consecutive even page (front to back on one sheet of paper).
Consider using an archival photo mounting sleeve, or corners, to place an actual photograph within your book. Today's options can be easy to use and self-adhesive, as well as archival to very fancy. Dedication to a special individual? Give your book buyers a special keepsake by placing a "real picture" within their book. By placing a photograph inside an archival sleeve, it provides an effective barrier against fingerprints and other hazards. A clear sleeve can "upgrade" a book by placing the color photo or flat keepsake and sleeve over a black and white printed photo or additional caption information. Sleeve options include one open end, a flap at an open end, a two sided sleeve (2 sides open), zipper bags and more. Just one of many things that can go into producing a deluxe or keepsake edition. A lower lifetime idea would be to place on the outside book cover.
With eBooks, your insert possibilities are vast!

Standard jewel case packaging will include a "front cover" with two sides printed. However, that standard insert could include 4 or 8 pages - even in slim line cases easily. Regular single disc jewel cases can include even thicker booklets.
Placing your eBook in a keeper case, usually used for DVDs, gives you an outer cover, as well as a space inside for a small booklet.
If you plan on mailing some of your sales, you'll need to consider mailing envelopes or boxes, or consider producing your eBook in a self mailing package. Self mailers can be simple card board sleeves (think album), or custom printed (self sealing) card mailers or beyond.
Even if you choose self mailers, add a disc to a printed book, or package in an envelope, a jewel case sized cover or booklet can be included for when the buyer places the book in their CD library.
These small ideas are just the beginning!
